Pekapeka-tou-roa (Iata Peautolo) T-shirts

Show your support for the 2021 Bird of the Year winner - Pekapeka-tou-roa (Long tailed bat).  Proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts support our work with Project Echo, an education and advocacy network for the bats that live among us, right here in Waikato!

These t-shirts are limited edition.  We have a variety of colour and size choices avaliable with some new colours added. Sage, Forrest green, Army green, Bright royal blue, bubblegum pink, Dark grey, cardinal, bubblegum pink, orange and yellow.

Pekapeka-tou-roa are endemic, and one of only two native mammals in Aotearoa (the other being the short-tailed bat).  They roost in big old trees, including totara, kahikatea, eucalyptus and pine  and rely on the green corridor systems along the river, lakes and gully system. 
They are critically endangered, the biggest threats being habitat loss and predators like rats, stoats, possums and cats.  

About the artist: Born and raised in Hamilton, Iata Peautolu is a multidisciplinary artist who is known for his tamoko and tatatau practice. Inspired by his Maori and Niuean lineage, Iata takes pride in his dual heritage, which is reflected within his work from tatatau, painting, illustration to graphic design. He draws his creativity from his urban upbringing in Hamilton and the art culture that continues to evolve in this modern world. He created this design for Go Eco to help raise awareness for pekapeka-tou-rou in Aotearoa.

The T-shirts are printed by Studio 386 - a fellow Frankton business.
